Luggage: History of Louis Vuitton Luggage
The Vuitton Company began in the year 1954 manufacturing luggage for the traveler. At that time the word luggage wasn’t truly used and neither were too many small bags. When a person traveled in the year 1854 was often by horse and buggy and a traveler would be gone weeks at a time, so many possessions were needed to fit in one trunk. Trunks were also used in homes to store the most prized possessions that a homeowner wanted to protect from the children, a storage trunk similar to what many homeowners continue to use in homes today for blankets, quilts and such. The first trunks were often created with a rounded type of lid. At the same time, the company introduced flat trunks so that they could easily be stacked on trains and on top of coaches. In the year 1872 a change was introduced to the trunks that were created by the Vuitton Company, introducing stripes to the canvas of the trunks. All the types of luggage from the start of the company up until and still continuing today.
Over the Years Louis Vuitton Luggage Changes
Over the years, the Louis Vuitton Company continued to make changes to the trunks that it manufactured, in the lines of colors, sizes, styles, types, and even the materials used in making the trunks. From stripes, to solids, to the flat tops and to hard and soft materials, the world of trunks took on a look that would become that of luggage. Trunks were made smaller for storing treasures in the home, for shorter trips and for women and men alike to carry them. The material changes in the trunks and the sizes combined to create carry bags, purses, wallets, and luggage that would fly across the world without problems. Each piece of Louis Vuitton luggage, each trunk, wallet and purse that the Louis Vuitton Company made used the LV logo and a monogram that would set it apart from any other competitor. Vuitton continues to be a major luxury luggage provider throughout the world. |
